Policy Status : Suggested

That the government reestablish specific mental health hospitals for mental health problems

Mental health is a number one problem in NZ. Earthquakes, Methamphetamine use, alcohol abuse, depression; the impact on families is huge and there is very little help available. You can't commit anyone anymore and get them in a safe place away from self harm.We need dedicated mental health hospitals like we used to have. Closing them was a big mistake, putting really mentally unwell people on the streets to abuse themselves and others. The police have to deal with it instead.
